Our School

Welcome to Lindersvold

Lindersvold, also called The Travelling Folk high School South Zealand (DRH South Zealand), is working in cooperation with Humana People to People and the DRH Movement. The aim of the school is to educate people who with their heart, hands and mind actively will take part in bringing from those who have, to those who have not. It is about fighting AIDS, poverty, racism, illiteracy, infant mortality. It is about building schools, bringing comfort and medicine to the sick and giving education, teaching the farmer how to grow more crops and get fresh water for his family.

We invite you to take part in this! No matter whether you are rich, poor young or old, educated or uneducated does not matter, as long as you have the will to make a difference. Our programs are aimed at people all over the world. We want people who are hard working, that will acquire the necessary knowledge and practical skills, who are flexible, motivated, show initiative, in order to make a difference.

WHERE IS THE SCHOOL?

The Travelling Folk High School South Zealand is situated in the countryside about one hour's drive south of Copenhagen, and 9 km away from the nearest town Faxe. The mansion house “Lindersvold” was built in 1820, and has previously been an orphanage and school for disadvantaged children.
The surrounding area of the school is very beautiful, with many trees and farm land. The Travelling Folk High School South Zealand is very near the Baltic Sea, there is a wonderful beach with white sand and pine forest. The area like most of Denmark is very flat and excellent for cycling.

AN INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL

The teachers and students come from countries all over the world, with widely different education, training and work backgrounds. All participants live at the schoolDRH South Zealand is many things besides being a Centre of learning for Development Instructors. It also houses 2 care homes, 1 for adults between 19-29 years and one for youngsters between 14-19 years. In addition we also run a day school for 30 children and youngsters. Common for all these people is that they, for various reasons, have special needs.

We have chosen to use our surplus and our capacity for the benefit of the less fortunate in this world, not only in Africa but also in our own country. There are normally more than 8 nationalities in the program at any one time and you will join a small community with very many things going on. To make daily life function in all its details you need to adjust, build up teamwork, flexible, open minded and straight forward.

The school is run by teachers and participants together. Each person has one or more responsibility areas. If, for example, you are responsible for the heating, you will ensure that there is always heating, whilst also considering new ways to keep down the expenses and the CO2 emissions. Each responsibility area is to be maintained to a certain standard, but improve and developing your responsibility area is very welcomed.

THE IDEA

The Development Instructor program is a unique chance to study and work with people from all over the world. You will get the chance to travel and learn about different cultures and to help those who are less fortunate. In Denmark you will help children and youngsters with special needs and who have had a difficult start in their lives, and in Africa you will be able to contribute to the fight against poverty and diseases.

Humana People to People is currently running around 330 development projects in Southern Africa, India, China and Central America, reaching a total of around 11.5  million people. We believe that all people ought to have a genuine possibility to live a good and meaningful life, and we stand in solidarity with the weakest, globally and locally.

We are for people with people.

One World University

Mozambique

One World University, or OWU for short, was started by Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) in Mozambique and the Federation Humana People to People (HPP) in 1998.In the following years, the school went through a process of recognition in close cooperation with the Pedagogical University of Mozambique.

In 2005, OWU was approved by the Council of Ministers in Mozambique as a private university. It was accreditated to deliver academic courses and degrees from the level of bachelor to PhD with a nationally recognized qualification, and was given its official name ISET – Instituto Superior de Educação e Tecnologia, in short ISET/OWU.

One World University currently has three faculties:

  • The Pedagogical Faculty
  • The Faculty Fighting with The Poor
  • The Faculty of Polyhistory.

The university offers courses, either on site at its campus in Changalane or through distance learning.

A lincetiate degree from OWU corresponds to a Bachelor of Arts degree, and a B-certificate corresponds to 1000 study hours.

A group of 7 training institutions around the World (whose Teacher Councils practice similar pedagogical ideas, cooperate with each other and develop programs together) entered into an agreement of cooperation with OWU Mozambique, allowing its participants to earn a degree from OWU as distance learners while following a course at their schools.

When participating in an OWU degree course, the learner will as part of the program go through the relevant curriculum and take the required exams from OWU in Mozambique, and will be assigned a tutor who will be her/his contact person in all matters concerning her/his OWU degree.

The 7 institutions are:

  • DRH South Zealand (Lindersvold), Denmark;

  • DRH Holsted, Denmark;
  • One World Institute, Norway;
  • College for International Co-operation and Development (CICD), UK;
  • Richmond Vale Academy, St. Vincent and The Grenadines, Eastern Caribbean;
  • Institute for International Cooperation & Development (IICD), Michigan, USA;
