OTHER PLACES, Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique

All villages have a meeting point where they discuss different issues important to the community. The chief of the village normally runs the village meetings.

Fishing is the main activity for villagers along the coast. Cabo Delgado has many beautiful beaches such as this.

A typical health post. Most are staffed only by nurses. The most common illnesses in the province are malaria, diarreia, anemia and sexually transmitted diseases.  The town of Chai was the site of the first armed attack against the Portuguese in 1964. A small group of Mozambican soldiers took part in this attack, which signalled the start of the war for independance.
